Raku Vase with Iridescent Silver Pearl Turquoise Glaze
Raku Vase with Iridescent Silver Pearl Turquoise Glaze
Hand made vessel pit fired in the traditional Japanese raku method, that places glowing red pots pulled from the kiln into closed containers filled with combustible materials like sawdust, dried leaves or paper. The resulting smoke causes unglazed areas to blacken and glazed areas to craze and crackle. Soot and ash are scrubbed away revealing metallic colors and textures. Always the unexpected… turquoise glaze on white crackle became greens, blues with black linear crackle and a section of silver pearl. Iridescent like excavated ancient glass, marked like surviving ancient designs.
Place at your altar, hold gathered sticks, tall herbs, drape the neck with amulets and textile, table sculpture alone or in the company of your treasured pieces.
