Antique Altar Oil Lamp from Indonesia

$148.00

Early 1900s Peranakan oil lamp, the blended cultures of migrating Chinese arriving in Malaysia and Singapore from the15th to 17th centuries. The lampu minyak, oil lamp in Malay, is small and was used to illuminate a sam kai altar in the home. The lamp is crusted with heavy patina with distinctive design elements from that region on the lid, body, base and handle. There is some damage to the very front of the spout where the wick would rest.

Fill with oil of choice and use a cotton wick. Place at your altar as an object that carries the age old traditions of fire, light and prayer. Insert incense sticks in the cut out design of the lid.

Both ornate and simple.

As discovered.
