Seated Buddha with raised right hand at shoulder height, the Abhaya mudra of no fear, protection, peace and benevolence with a patterned  decorative platform. Mudras are sacred hand gestures or positions that have meanings, evoke a state of mind or represent events in the Buddha’s life. The statue is mounted to an organic, inundating slice of “hurricane wood,” salvaged from the incredible tangle of fallen trees on our property after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The characteristics of the central knot and curling edges feels like the motion of constant waves that meet the shore.

The wood has been refined and finished but never to the point of losing the natural characteristics. There are 2 hand cut, hammered, painted and etched brass cups, their designs from antiquity, with copper inserts to hold incense or our imported hand made monastery beeswax candles. 4 included.
